Every year Shintech and K-Bin report their environmental and safety records to an independent third party for qualification for the Vinyl Institute's Safety and Environmental Awards.
Shintech is a steward of the environment, which includes health and safety, and Shintech is ISO certified. We are a vital part of our communities and the safety, health and wellness of each employee is of utmost importance to Shintech.
Shintech has an excellent safety and environmental record. The vinyl industry’s incident rate is one of the lowest reported to OSHA. Shintech strives to meet and exceed EPA emissions goals.

Safety Data Sheets
Previously called Material Safety Data Sheets and referred to as MSDS, these safety tools are now referred to as Safety Data Sheets.
Shintech has a proven record of being a good neighbor by operating its facilities safely and responsibly. We started operations in Texas 1974 and expanded to Louisiana in 2000. Facilities in Texas and Louisiana have outstanding Safety and Environmental records. This safety and environmental record is a tribute to Shintech employees' dedication and focus on safe operations and reliably designed plants.
Shintech has an onsite Emergency Response Team with the following services:
- Fire Fighting
- Rescue
- HAZMAT
- Emergency Medical Service
- Incident Command
Employees on the ERT must complete initial training, certification and continuing education.


Awards
Special recognition of 9 VI member facilities with zero recordable OSHA incidents for five or more consecutive years and 14 member facilities with five or more consecutive years of outstanding performance under EPA’s NESHAPs, and other environmental permit requirements.
WASHINGTON, DC – November 18, 2024 –The Vinyl Institute (VI), the U.S. trade association representing manufacturers of vinyl, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), additives, and modifiers, announced the recipients of its annual health, safety, and environmental awards. These awards are given to VI-member companies for protecting the environment and improving worker safety at manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and Canada. This year, VI recognized 28 facilities with 53 awards for outstanding performance.
The U.S. vinyl raw material suppliers adhere to some of the most stringent government environmental and safety regulations in the world. These awards are based on data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP), and facility performance according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable incidents, other regulatory permit performance, and the EPA’s Toxic Release Inventory data for air and water during the 2023 calendar year.
“The Vinyl Industry remains committed to prioritizing the well-being of our workforce and advancing environmentally responsible practices for the safety of our communities,” said VI President and CEO Ned Monroe. “These awards recognize the hard work of our member companies to prioritize worker safety and to reduce emissions.”
Safety Excellence Award
This award recognizes consistent adherence to OSHA safety regulations and recognizes plants with five or more consecutive years with no recordable incidents. The following facilities demonstrated continued outstanding performance in 2023:
- Shintech Louisiana, LLC, PVC plant, Plaquemine, Louisiana (11 consecutive years of performance)
Environmental Excellence Award
This award is based on an outstanding track record of performance for five or more consecutive years under EPA’s NESHAPs, and other environmental permit requirements. The following facilities demonstrated continued outstanding performance in 2023:
- K-bin Inc., PVC/CPVC Compounding plant, Freeport, Texas (5 consecutive years of performance)
- Shintech Louisiana, LLC, PVC plant, Addis, Louisiana (5 consecutive years of performance
Safety Honor Award
This award recognizes efforts to improve worker safety based on federal OSHA recordable incidents, which are defined as occupational injury or illness resulting in medical treatment. This award, which recognizes plants with no recordable incidents for the reporting year. The following facilities demonstrated continued outstanding performance in 2023:

- Shintech Louisiana, LLC, PVC plant, Addis, Louisiana
- Shintech Louisiana, LLC, PVC plant, Plaquemine, Louisiana
